Latest Update on India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Participation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has categorically denied pulling out of the Asia Cup.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said no decision on the upcoming Asian events was discussed by the board, leave alone writing about it to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) about withdrawal.

Board secretary Devajit Saikia says there has been no communication from the BCCI to the ACC regarding upcoming events.in the T20 format but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which runs the Asia Cup, has not yet announced the schedule or the venue. September has unofficially been penciled in as the window.

The ACC is currently headed by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.

Sources said the decision is part of a move to isolate Pakistan cricket. “The Indian team can’t play in a tournament that is organized by the ACC whose chief is a Pakistan minister. That’s the sentiment of the nation. We have verbally communicated to ACC about our withdrawal from the upcoming Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and our future participation in their events too is on hold. We are in constant touch with the Indian government,” said a BCCI source.

“At this stage, our prime focus is on the ongoing IPL and subsequent England series, both men and women,” the BCCI official further said.

Since Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian forces on Pakistan, there has been intense speculation about the future of the Asia Cup and the impending second edition of the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Saikia said the BCCI has not applied its mind on such tournaments and its current and steadfast focus is on the IPL and England tour.

The BCCI has normally sought permission from the Indian government to play Pakistan in multinational events. In 2023, when Pakistan was the host of the Asia Cup, a precursor to the ODI World Cup, the BCCI said it did not have the Indian government’s permission to travel to Pakistan. Consequently, PCB adopted a hybrid model to conduct the tournament in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the latter hosting all of India’s matches including the final. Earlier this year, India did not travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy for similar reasons and played all their matches including the final in Dubai.

The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level, hence any news or report on that is purely speculative and imaginary. It may be said that BCCI will announce in due course as and when any discussion on any ACC events should take place or any key decision is reached, Saikia signed off.
